The Australorp is an Australian bred chicken with a beautiful beetle-green sheen to each feather. They also have large, expressive, black eyes which is considered one of their most endearing attributes. The Australorp is often bred with Isabrowns or Loman Browns to produce a very tame backyard chicken which has scattered, rust coloured feathers appearing on their chests. The Australorp is very well known for being an excellent layer. It is a large, heavy breed of beautiful colouring & temperament. Australorps were originally known as the Utility Black Orpington, are hardy, active and lay brown eggs of good size.
The chickens are sold only as Day Old Chicks currently and come double vaccinated as per Dept of Primary Industries standards and wormed so you can be guaranteed of getting a healthy bird.
Please note that day old chick sexing by professional chicken sexers is only 90% accurate. If you happen to win 'rooster lotto' we are unable to swap your male with a hen of this breed as we simply do not have the stock available. If one of your chicks ends up being a male, you will be offered a refund of the original amount paid with your rooster removed for you free of charge OR you may take home an Isabrown hen or an Australorp hybrid hen at point of lay OR take 2 chicks as replacements.
